DAY TRIP investigates the moment before arrival rather than the destination. Matt Murphy presents a series of 15 paintings, each a meditation on color and perspective, which invites us to sit still inside a place where time slows, eyes widen and expectations buzz with newness. Through stripped-back landscapes and distilled forms, each work evokes the essence of a place not yet reached and a moment yet to unfold.

Thank you for all the support. The show is now closed.

Matt Murphy, a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, is multi-disciplinary artist based in LA who embraces diverse and dynamic mediums including street performance, graphic design, sculpture and drawing. His core focus over the last seven years has been painting—specifically landscapes. Inspired by the universality of ambient light, each painting is equal parts observed and manufactured, re-imagining optical effects from nature through his masterful hand-layering of paint while distilling landscapes into their simplest, most evocative forms. This is Murphy’s fourth solo exhibition.

Below is a small selection of paintings from previous shows

In 2024, I was involved in an incredible group show:
Hollywood Dream Bubble:
Ed Ruscha’s influence in Los Angeles and beyond

This show was an art-star studded lineup, masterfully curated by Gallucci Tull,
sure to prove out Ed’s massive creative influence.

In 2022, I was included in a group show, MANSCAPING, at the Hole Gallery in LA.

It featured an amazing group of artists, organized around the common theme of how landscape is impacted by mankind.

In 2022, I was included in Symbiosis, at the Berkshire Botanical Gardens. Curated by Beth Rudin DeWoody, this was a very special exhibit that aimed to fuse art and nature.
